Choose About This Mac from the Apple menu. If Chip shows Apple M1 or later, choose Apple Silicon. If Processor shows Intel, choose Intel.
The free version is for Mac. On Windows, get Tonograph from the Microsoft Store.

Open the .dmg you downloaded
Double-click it in your Downloads folder.
Drag it to Applications
In the window that opens, drag Tonograph onto the Applications folder.
Open Tonograph
The first time, macOS asks you to confirm. The app is notarized by Apple, so it opens right away.

- Open .gp files, including multi-track scores
- Edit freely, with undo and redo on every operation
- Play back through the Resonance Engine
- Plug in your guitar: tune it, play through the pedalboard, write notes by playing
- Use the AI (MCP) integration to read and edit the open score
- Open the 3 sample pieces that ship with the app

Formats it opens
Tonograph opens .gp (Guitar Pro 7 / 8) / .gpx (Guitar Pro 6), plus .tonograph, the app’s own format. A score opened from .gpx is exported as .gp.
Older Guitar Pro files
Files saved by Guitar Pro 5 or earlier (.gp3 / .gp4 / .gp5) cannot be opened directly. Open one in Guitar Pro 8, save it as .gp, and Tonograph will read it. The app tells you the same thing if you try.
