Tonograph Free
A .gp viewer that actually plays
Open Guitar Pro files on your Mac, hear them through a real signal chain, and edit as much as you like. The one thing it cannot do is write to disk.

Download
Downloads open when the first public build has been signed and notarized. There is nothing to download yet.
- Requirements
macOS 12.0 (Monterey) or later
Apple Silicon or Intel
About 300 MB of disk space
- Updates
The free version is updated from this page. The Mac App Store version updates through the App Store.
What you can do
- Open .gp files, including multi-track scores
- Edit freely, with undo and redo on every operation
- Play back through the Resonance Engine
- Use the AI (MCP) integration to read and edit the open score
- Open the 3 sample pieces that ship with the app
What it cannot do
- Save your work as .tonograph
- Export .gp
- Export PDF, or print
- Auto-save and crash recovery
Those are in the paid version on the Mac App Store.
Formats it opens
Tonograph reads gp3, gp4, gp5, gpx, gp — the formats Guitar Pro has used since version 3 — plus .tonograph, the app’s own format.
Free and paid
One rule decides everything: the free version does everything except write to disk.
