Keys for

Boards

A bottom-panel tab that lights up what's playing on an instrument. When playback is stopped, click it to place notes.

The board follows the track#

The second tab of the bottom panel becomes a fretboard, keyboard or drum pads to match the instrument of the track with the cursor.

During playback, the notes sounding on that track light up. When stopped, clicking the board places a note on the beat with the cursor, and clicking the same spot again removes it.

Fretboard#

On guitar and bass tracks, the fretted positions appear on the neck.

Select a number to jump to its description.
  1. 1Virtual fretboard

Sounding notes light up, and the rest of the bar’s notes are shown faintly. Bends and slides move across the neck too.

  2. 2Frets shown

How many frets to show at once. Fewer frets are drawn wider.

  3. 3Tremolo

On beats with whammy, the bridge tilts with the movement of the bar.

  4. 4Volume

The volume of the track with the cursor. It moves the same value as the volume slider in the Left panel.

  5. 5ToneNew in 1.1.0

Rolls off the high end to round the tone. Fully right is the original sound. You can turn it during playback, but it isn’t saved in the song.

Fret spacing and string vibration#

On the Display tab of TonographSettings…FileSettings…, choose Even or True Scale fret spacing.

Even draws every fret the same width. True Scale draws them like a real fingerboard: wide near the nut and narrower toward the bridge. The default is Even.

Turn on String Vibration (experimental) on the same tab to make each sounding string vibrate from the fretted position to the bridge during playback. It’s off by default.

KeyboardNew in 1.1.0#

On piano tracks, the sounding notes light up on the keys.

The range of keys adjusts to the notes used on the track. On a grand-staff piano, notes from both staves light up on one keyboard.
