What is Tonograph

An app for writing guitar tab and hearing it straight away through a pedalboard of effects.

Write tab#

Type fret numbers on the keyboard and the tab and standard notation are written together.

Techniques such as bends, slides and harmonics are added by selecting a note and pressing a button or key. Besides guitar, you can write bass, seven-string guitar, piano and drum tracks.

Hear what you write#

Your score plays back with instrument sounds made by the Resonance Engine.

The sound runs through the effects on the pedalboard, so it can be clean or distorted. Slow it down or loop a few bars to practise.

Export and share#

Export your song as a .gp file, a PDF, MIDI or WAV.

A .gp file opens in many tab editors, and a PDF can be printed on paper. Exporting is a paid-version feature.

Write with AI#

AI apps such as Claude can read and edit the song you have open.

Ask an AI to sketch a melody or to check what you wrote. There is also a setting that lets you confirm each AI change before it is applied.
