Keys for

Free and paid versions

Tonograph comes in a free version and a paid version. The only difference is whether you can write files.

Only writing files differs#

The free version lets you edit, play back and work with AI for as long as you like.

The paid-version features are Save, Save As, .gp export, MIDI export, audio export, and PDF export and printing. All of them write a file to disk.

Trying to save in the free version#

When you choose Save or an export in the free version, a notice titled Saving and exporting are in the paid version appears.

Press See the paid version in the notice to open a page about the paid version in your browser. The menus and buttons can still be pressed in the free version, so this notice is how you tell which commands belong to the paid version.

Usage data sent by the free version#

The free version sends anonymous counts, such as how often features are used.

It never sends the contents of your score, file names or song titles. To stop sending, open TonographSettings…FileSettings… and turn it off on the General tab. The paid version sends nothing.

Updates for the free versionNew in 1.1.0#

The free version checks once a day whether a new version is out.

If there is one, it asks whether to download it. To check yourself, choose Check for Updates… in the app menu. The paid version is updated through the app store.

Getting the paid version#

The paid version is a one-off purchase on the Mac App Store or the Microsoft Store.

See the pricing page for the price and where to buy. Songs written in the free version open as they are in the paid version.
