Song and track boards
Choose between the song's boards and a track's own board, and make a board you like the default for every song.
Choose the board to edit#
Use Scope in the pedalboard’s top strip to choose between the song’s board and the track’s dedicated board.
Both follow the track under the cursor. The song has a separate board for each track Sound, and tracks with the same Sound share one board. For example, a song with a clean guitar and a distorted guitar has two song boards.
When you open another song, the choice goes back to the song’s board. A grand-staff piano uses one board for its upper and lower staves.
The song’s board#
You can always edit the song’s board, and it’s recorded in the song the first time you change it.
While the song has no board of its own yet, you see the app default or the factory board. Move one knob and a copy of that board is recorded in the song. Just opening it to look doesn’t change the song. Recorded boards are saved in the .tonograph file.
To discard the song’s board and go back, click Use app default. This button appears only when the song has a board.
A track’s dedicated board#
To change the sound of just one track, click Make dedicated to give it a dedicated board.
When you select a track without a dedicated board, the board is dimmed and can’t be edited. The top strip says which board the track is currently playing through. Clicking Make dedicated copies the board you see to that track and makes it editable. This is so that turning a knob never quietly separates a track from the song’s board.
To stop using the dedicated board, click Use song board. A track with a dedicated board has a pedal mark next to its name in the left panel. Dedicated boards are saved in the .tonograph file too.
App default boards#
Click Set as app default to make a board you like the default for every song.
There’s one app default per Sound. Tracks that have neither a song board nor a dedicated board play through it. It has no effect on a song that already has a board for that Sound. When an app default exists, Reset to factory appears next to the button.
You can also see the list of app defaults under App default pedalboards on the Audio tab of . There you can only reset them to factory. At first there are no app defaults, and every sound plays through its factory board. App defaults are stored in the app and are kept the next time you start it.
Adjust while playing#
You can adjust pedals during playback, and the changes are recorded in the song when you stop.
You hear each change right away. When you stop, each board you touched becomes one edit in the edit history. Make dedicated, Use song board and Use app default can’t be clicked during playback.
Undo#
Edits to song and track boards can be undone with ⌘ZCtrl+Z, like any other edit.
Adding, removing and reordering pedals, adjusting knobs and applying presets each appear in the edit history. Only changes to app defaults can’t be undone, because they aren’t edits to the song.
