Keys for

Repeats and directions

Add repeat signs, first and second endings, directions such as D.S., and fermatas, and see how they play back.

Add repeats#

Choose BarRepeat Start on the first bar to repeat and BarRepeat End on the last.

Choosing either again removes it. You can also add and remove them in the Repeat row of the inspector’s bar section. An end repeat starts with a count of 2; change the count in the number field in the same row. The count is how many times the passage is played, so 2 means it goes back once. Setting it to 0 removes the end repeat.

An end repeat without a start repeat goes back to the start of the song, or to just after the previous end repeat.

First and second endings#

Enter the ending numbers in Alternate Endings in the inspector’s bar section.

Numbers run from 1 to 8; separate several with commas, as in “1,2”. Clearing the field removes the bracket. For a bracket that spans two or more bars, enter the same number in each bar.

In playback, the repeat ends on the pass with the highest ending number.

D.C., D.S., Coda and Fine#

Use + next to Directions in Structure & Symbols in the inspector to add a direction to that bar.

Choose from the list, such as Segno, Coda, Fine, D.C. or D.S. al Coda. A bar can have several, and the − on a row removes it. Direction names appear the same in every language.

In playback:

  • D.C. and D.S. directions jump after the bar has been played. D.C. goes to the start of the song, and D.S. goes to the Segno
  • After a jump marked al Coda, playback jumps to the Coda once the Da Coda bar has been played. Da Coda is the sign meaning “jump to the Coda from here”
  • After a jump marked al Fine, playback ends at the Fine bar
  • Each direction jumps only once

Fermata#

Each press of FF cycles the fermata on the beat under the cursor through short, medium, long and none.

You can also choose it with Fermata in the inspector. A fermata is added at the same position in every track. It doesn’t lengthen the note in playback.
