Entering frets
Type fret numbers on the string with the cursor.
Type a number#
Put the cursor on a string and press a number key to enter that fret.
On a rest, typing a number turns the rest into a note whose length is the note value selected in the Edit palette. On a string that already has a note, only the fret changes.
Two-digit frets#
For a two-digit fret, type the digits one after the other.
Pressing 1 and then 2 straight away gives fret 12. If you pause in between, the second digit is entered as a new fret.
Move to the next beat#
Typing a number doesn’t move the cursor, so press →Right to go to the next beat.
Pressing →Right on the last beat of the song creates a new beat. If the bar is already full, it creates a new bar.
Elsewhere in the song, pressing →Right on the last beat of a bar moves to the next bar, even if the bar is still shorter than the time signature. This also happens after you write one note in an empty bar. To keep writing in the same bar, press ⌘⇧ICtrl+Shift+I to add a beat after it, then type the fret. Matching bar length explains how short bars are handled.
Delete a note#
Press ⌦⌫DelBackspace to delete the note on the string with the cursor.
When every note on a beat is gone, the beat becomes a rest of the same length. To delete the beat itself and close the gap, press ⌘⌦⌘⌫Ctrl+DelCtrl+Backspace.
