Keys for

Rests

Turn notes into rests, and insert rests between beats.

Turn a note into a rest#

Select a beat and press RR to turn it into a rest of the same length.

Every note on the beat is removed. To turn a rest back into a note, type a fret number on it.

Insert a rest#

Press ⌘ICtrl+I to insert a rest before the beat with the cursor.

The rest’s length is the note value selected in the Edit palette. The cursor moves onto the new rest.

Add a beat after#

Press ⌘⇧ICtrl+Shift+I to add a rest after the beat with the cursor and move the cursor there.

Type a fret number next and it becomes a note straight away.

Delete a beat and close the gap#

Press ⌘⌦⌘⌫Ctrl+DelCtrl+Backspace to delete a beat and move the following beats forward.

With a range selected, every beat in the range is deleted. If you delete every beat in a bar, one rest as long as the first beat is left. The bar gets shorter by what you deleted, and by default it isn’t filled with rests. Matching bar length explains how to fix a short bar.
